About
Dr. Azizova is an associate professor of higher education at the University of North Dakota. Her research centers on the issues of postsecondary access and student success to understand and advance equity-driven educational practices and advising models for diverse college students. Drawing from critical social theory, her works examine the role of student personal agency as well as various forms of capital, institutional differences, and educational practices in student success outcomes.
Current Work
I am currently running a research lab where my graduate students and I aim to generate robust qualitative data across various institutional contexts and from diverse racial and social narratives, which will help scholars and practitioners to better understand student agency and its role in postsecondary success. Student agency is broadly defined as an individual will and power for an outcome-oriented action. The contemporary view of this concept recognizes a profound influence of community on the development of student agency. In other words, the following questions guide our research lab: How do students' individual will and power influence their college experiences and who contributes to the development of student agency?
