Dr. Hendrickson's research focuses on exploring the potential of natural plant extracts, particularly dandelion seed extract, to fight cancer. She studies how the extract affects the growth and movement of cancer cells while ensuring it doesn’t harm healthy cells. The ultimate goal is to identify low-cost, natural anticancer treatments that are safe, effective, and accessible to everyone, especially in underserved communities. Currently, she is working with students to identify the most active components of the dandelion extract that can target cancer cells. This hands-on research not only contributes to science but also helps train the next generation of researchers. She is also incorporating this into a service-learning course where students combine scientific research with community service, supporting cancer patients directly and learning how science can make a meaningful impact in people’s lives.
