Dr. Fricas holds a PhD in Organizational Leadership, Policy, and Development (U of Minnesota), a Master of Public Health in Global Health Policy (George Washington U), and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (James Madison U).Dr. Fricas has been on faculty at Seattle University (SU) since 2007. She teaches undergraduate and graduate students in the areas of population/global health, philosophy of science, and interdisciplinary health topics. She has created or led global health courses in Belize, Sweden, Nicaragua, and Peru. Dr. Fricas was the founding chair of the Partners in Global Health Equity and Equity and Justice Committees, and creator and coordinator of a population health internship. She serves on SU’s Institutional Review Board.

Current Work
Dr. Fricas' work falls into two categories: understanding and eliminating health inequities and innovating and improving health professions education. As a practicing public health nurse for many years, Dr. Fricas is experienced in community engagement, community-based participatory research, and program planning and evaluation. She is also an expert in photovoice, a form of participatory photography. Dr. Fricas conducts studies with the method, teaches others how photovoice works, and consults with organizations wanting to use photovoice for engagement or research.
