About
I began my career working as a social worker for the Department of Public Health-HIV Program. From there, I transitioned to the University of California San Diego, Department of Psychiatry. I went on to work for Children and Family Services as a Social Service Practitioner and then finally as a Supervising Social Services Practitioner for several years working in child welfare. I have been teaching for the last 20 years and have taught at UCR extension, San Diego State- Public Child Welfare Training Academy, University of Riverside-La Sierra Group, University of Phoenix, and Park University. I am a Research Fellow in Residence at the Center for Workplace Diversity and Inclusion for the University of Phoenix. I am also a tenured Professor/Mental Health Counselor at Barstow Community College where I run the mental health program.
Current Work
Dr. Banton just published research on the experiences of women in the computer technology fields. She often does research on DEI in the workspace, education, and the interconnectedness between faculty and students. She also just submitted a textbook chapter on mental health for Black male educators and is finishing up research on belonging in the STEM field for women. Dr. Banton's research agenda for 2025 will be on belonging and emotional safety at work and why people stay in negative work environments when the environment is detrimental to their mental and physical health.
