About
Nicole Ngaosi is a doctoral student in the Program in Higher Education Leadership at the University of Texas (UT) at Austin. She is advised by Dr. Liliana Garces.
Prior to attending UT, Ngaosi dedicated her full-time Student Affairs professional roles to supporting student retention at UCLA. At UCLA's multicultural center, her portfolio oversaw a portion of the university's basic needs operations as well as its readmission pipeline program and affinity-based peer counseling efforts. Her work drew heavily on her background as a student organizer and her service on various university and systemwide committees.
A former community college transfer from Santa Monica College, Ngaosi obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Asian American Studies, Master of Arts in Asian American Studies, and Master of Social Welfare from UCLA.
Current Work
Ngaosi's research interests focus on understanding the role of institutional partnerships to yield long-term social justice priorities at universities. Through case study methodology, she utilizes a combination of archival documents and oral histories to illuminate multigenerational advocacy executed by students, staff, faculty, and external stakeholders. Her current project focuses on restrictive political and legal pressures to higher education institutions. She specifically looks at how university actors, specifically faculty councils and faculty who teach required diversity coursework, respond to proposed legislation.
