About
Dr. Kat J. Stephens-Peace is an assistant professor of higher education in Teachers College at Ball State University. She researches racially minoritized women graduate students with disabilities, or who are neurodivergent. Some of Dr. Stephens-Peace's recent projects and collaborations focus on spirituality, faith, and immigrant populations. Her current research is situated in the field of study that is Higher Education, and is supported by incorporating Critical Disability Studies, Crip Studies, Black Studies, Women & Gender Studies, and Critical ADHD Studies. As a critical qualitative scholar employing Arts-Based methods such as Poetic Inquiry and visual representation, I know that my work is important, but even more so when it lives outside of the academy and in art forms.
Before her work at BSU, Dr. KSP worked in various higher education units, including graduate admissions, undergraduate admissions, student affairs, residence life, and academic advising.
Current Work
Dr. Stephens-Peace would describe her scholarship and research projects as a mix of things mostly unseen. Her scholarship reflects the invisible experiences, joys, and challenges that exist within neurodivergent body minds. Her work brings forward the lived and academic experiences of Black women from across the Africana Diaspora who are making sense of disability and disability identity in their lives.
