Dr. NaYeon Yang (she/her) is an assistant professor in Counseling Psychology at the University of North Texas and the director of the Grief, Loss, and Trauma Lab. She earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park. Her research focuses on grief, loss, trauma, career development, and multicultural and social justice issues. Dr. Yang is particularly interested in promoting the well-being of individuals navigating grief and trauma and in exploring how culture and intersecting identities shape experiences of grief and resilience.
Current Work
Dr. Yang’s scholarship focuses on grief, trauma, and issues of multiculturalism and social justice, with particular emphasis on cultural and intersectional influences. Currently, Dr. Yang and her team are conducting a systematic review to examine how culture has been addressed in grief research. Her future work aims to explore the factors that either support or hinder the grieving process for individuals navigating grief and trauma. Dr. Yang is also interested in investigating how technological advancements, such as artificial intelligence, can be utilized in grief counseling to provide more accessible and equitable interventions, as well as the ethical considerations of using such technology in clinical settings. Across all these projects, her work underscores the critical role of culture and intersectionality in shaping grief experiences and in the development of supportive interventions.
