Current Work
Dr. Jarrel Johnson studies how Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) can better support and include Black queer and trans* students. He focuses on understanding their unique experiences and looks at how colleges can create policies, programs, and environments that make these students feel welcomed and valued. By exploring how leadership and organizational change work at these institutions, he aims to help them become more inclusive and equitable for all students. Currently, he is leading a research study exploring the collegiate success, health, and well-being of Black quare and trans* students attending HBCUs.
