The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) at the University of Michigan offers its students an outstanding undergraduate education in the liberal arts at a premier research institution, and is dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive scholarly environment. LSA launched the LSA Collegiate Fellows Program (LCFP) in 2016 as a major College initiative aimed at supporting, recruiting, and retaining exceptional early career scholars who are committed to building a diverse intellectual community.
The College seeks early career scholars whose teaching and mentoring, and/or research and scholarship, and/or service and engagement will contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education. The program is particularly interested in scholars with a demonstrated interest in bringing to their work the critical perspectives that come from nontraditional educational backgrounds and pathways, and/or scholarly understanding of the experiences of groups who are historically underrepresented or marginalized in higher education.
The purpose of the LSA Collegiate Fellows Program is to support exceptional scholars in all three divisions of the College — humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences — who are committed to diversity in the academy and to prepare those scholars for tenure-track appointments in LSA at the University of Michigan.
This faculty hiring initiative provides either one to two years of postdoctoral fellowship support in preparation for tenure-track appointments or immediate tenure-track appointments in LSA departments. To date, 37 Fellows have joined U-M/LSA over four recruitment cycles, with an overall tenure track transition rate of 97.3% as of September 2022. Ten new fellows will join our community in Fall 2022.
