Call for Applications: Spark Magazine Editorial Board
The Spark editorial board plays a critical role in working one-on-one with diversity scholars from across the country on their public writing through Spark. Our goal is simple: We believe good research has the power to change society, if society pays attention to it. Thus, we work with authors to take ideas from conception to publication, with a specific eye toward public readability. We invite applications to the Spark editorial board for 2021-2023.
Specific roles and responsibilities of the position include:
- Providing constructive, developmental feedback and editing to contributors to improve accessibility, scholarly analysis, and reach of public scholarship. Selected editors can expect to review approximately 3-4 articles or features per academic year.
- Contribute to the magazine as a writer for a curator series or special, standalone feature
- Curate and lead a developed series on a specific topic in collaboration with the editorial board and senior advisers of Spark, including reviewing and selecting pitches for themed series.
- Serve on an editorial board with fellow peers and colleagues that represent various academic disciplines and research interests. Board meetings are held approximately six times a year every two months.
Compensation for selected editors will be $1,000 (paid out over the course of the two-year term).
To apply, please complete this form by Friday, April 2. If you have any questions, please contact Cobretti D. Williams, managing editor of publications ([email protected]).
